Depending on the amount of the data or music files you have on your device, "Refreshing Database" may take a while to finish. But if you feel it's frozen you may try the following steps:
STEP 1 - Reset the player
This will reset a player that may be frozen. This will NOT delete any content from the player. Most Sansa players can be reset as follows:
- Press and Hold the power button for 20 seconds, or
- Slide and Hold the power switch for 20 seconds
NOTE: You can also try removing any memory card that has been inserted into the player
STEP 2 - Delete recently loaded files
If the problem occurred after transferring songs or other content to the player, you can try deleting a few of the recently added files.
1. Connect the device to the PC.
2. Locate and delete recently added files.
3. Disconnect the device from the PC.
--- If deleting some files did not work, go to the next step ---
STEP 3 - Format the player
There is a possibility that the player database (or files) has become corrupted and will not load. If so, you will need to format the device which will erase everything (including all songs and the database) and reload the songs to the device.
1. Connect the player to your PC or Mac and follow the steps in the appropriate article below.
- Formatting MP3 players in Windows Explorer
- Formatting on a Mac computer
--- If format did not work, go to the next step ---
STEP 4 - Re-install the firmware
If formatting the player did not work, the firmware may not be loading correctly. Re-install the firmware manually. Follow instructions in the links below on how to manually install the firmware for your player.
