D40 Power Settings
How do I change the settings on my Nikon D40 camera?

NOTE: To change the Auto Power OFF settings on the Nikon D40, you first need to change your Setup menu to Full (see steps 1-6 below).

1. Turn camera power on.
2. Press the MENU button.
3. Use the Left Arrow Image followed by the Down Arrow Image or Up Arrow Image to select the Tool (Setup) Image menu and press the OK Image button.

4. Under the Tool (setup) menu, use the Up Arrow Image or Down Arrow Image to highlight the CSM/Setup menu and press the OK Image button.

5. Use the Down Arrow Image to select Full and press the OK Image button.

6. Press the Left Arrow Image button followed by the Up Arrow Image button to highlight the Pencil (Custom Setting) menu and press the OK Image button.

7. Use the Down Arrow Image button to highlight 15 (Auto Off Timers) and press the OK Image button.

8. Use the Down Arrow Image button to highlight Custom and press the OK Image button.

9. Use the Down Arrow Image button to highlight Auto Meter Off and press the OK Image button.

10. Use the Down Arrow Image to select 30 min. and press the OK Image button.

11. Use the Up Arrow Image to highlight Done and press the OK Image button.

NOTE: Once completed these steps, your camera will stay on for 30 minutes. However, due to a camera firmware issue, once you take a picture, your camera will default back to a 4 sec image review setting. To get back to 30 minutes, turn your camera OFF and ON again.
