How do I change the settings on my Nikon D40 camera?
NOTE: To change the Auto Power OFF settings on the Nikon D40, you first need to change your Setup menu to Full (see steps 1-6 below).
1. Turn camera power on.
2. Press the MENU button.
3. Use the Left Arrow followed by the Down Arrow or Up Arrow to select the Tool (Setup) menu and press the OK button.
4. Under the Tool (setup) menu, use the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to highlight the CSM/Setup menu and press the OK button.
5. Use the Down Arrow to select Full and press the OK button.
6. Press the Left Arrow button followed by the Up Arrow button to highlight the Pencil (Custom Setting) menu and press the OK button.
7. Use the Down Arrow button to highlight 15 (Auto Off Timers) and press the OK button.
8. Use the Down Arrow button to highlight Custom and press the OK button.
9. Use the Down Arrow button to highlight Auto Meter Off and press the OK button.
10. Use the Down Arrow to select 30 min. and press the OK button.
11. Use the Up Arrow to highlight Done and press the OK button.
NOTE: Once completed these steps, your camera will stay on for 30 minutes. However, due to a camera firmware issue, once you take a picture, your camera will default back to a 4 sec image review setting. To get back to 30 minutes, turn your camera OFF and ON again.
